Hello Everyone! What a crazy last month it’s been! The Chesapeake and Petrohawk press releases at the beginning of April have created a land rush in NW Louisiana of which I have never experienced. The lease bonus numbers being thrown around are in my opinion crazy and will make this land rush hard to duplicate. Hopefully the Haynesville Shale will prove economically productive across the area and will bring prosperity to all involved. I guess only time will tell.
May brings a close to the SGS year. I hope all of you took advantage of two of SGS’s best social activities of the year. The Hit and Run returned this year after a one year hiatus. Hopefully this will be a new beginning for the event with many good years to follow. The second big SGS event was the Spring Fling. With the SGS, SPE and ALTAPL teaming up, it would be hard to pick a better event to close the year.
I hope each of you will make plans to attend May’s luncheon meeting. As it has been in the past, May will serve as our awards luncheon. Join us as we recognize the winners of the science fair and the recipients of the 2008 SGS scholarships. We will also recognize Mr. Ray Scurlock and Mr. Gene Robinson for honorary membership. Both Mr. Scurlock and Mr. Robinson have a history of geologic success in our business as well a long history of participation in SGS activities. Both individuals are well deserving of the awards. As if you needed another reason to attend, Rob Mayer will be speaking on Geophysical Modeling & Reservoir Prediction.
May also marks the end to the three year term for three of our board members. Wishing us a fond farewell will be Mr. Steve Cowgill, Mr. Chris Bresch and myself. Make sure you tell these guys thank you for their three years of hard work. With goodbye also comes hello for Mr. Glen Kelly, Mr. Kevin Hill and Mr. Tim Vance. Guys…Welcome aboard!
In closing I must say that the last few years have been a fun time serving on the board of the SGS. I feel we were able to accomplish some good things. I also feel that the programs put in place, such as the Maps in Schools Program, will benefit our community for years to come. I hope this is just the beginning of our outreach to the communities of Caddo and Bossier Parish. It was a great experience serving this year as the SGS President. Thank you!
